Our club has long supported literacy within the community and one of our primary beneficiaries has been the Avon Grove library.  This year our funding was used to support the library book drop.  Stop by the library to view the new addition to the services offered by the library!
Larry Thompson sang the National Anthem at the Phillies game again for the third straight year.  Thank you Larry for your commitment to Rotary, your support of the Phillies, and sharing your beautiful voice!

At Lynn Klingensmith's installation, we recognized three club members who have maintained perfect attendance for many years.  They are Larry Thompson (25 years), Dick Chambers (52 years) and Calvin Pickel (48 years).  To give you an appreciation of this level of dedication, 52 years of perfect attendance translates to about 2500 meetings!  This would be equivalent to perfect school attendance from K-college.  Dick Chambers, I think that you have earned a doctorate in Rotary!

Thank you to all of our Flags for Heroes sponsors.  Not only did you honor a special hero in your life, you helped to support local and international service projects.

Thank you to all the WGA Rotarians for coming out to volunteer at Project CURE on April 30.  We had amazing club participation and I am very proud of our club.  We really work well together!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at our annual pancake breakfast.  It was a great event with 501 tickets sold!  It is a wonderful way to show our community fire fighters and ambulance squads how much we appreciate their service to us.
What a great presentation we had today by Canine Partners for Life featuring Janet Cooper and Sage.  This wonderful organization provides an incredible service to disabled individuals as well as those suffering from diabetes and heart disease.  We were able to support them with a small donation- hoping to increase it in the future!

We recently had three new members join our club, Diane Murphy, Gail Hudson and Peg Gober!  Diane is the Director of Marketing for BRS Insurance Services, Gail is a retired nurse and Peg is retired from a career in Occupational Health.  These new members have demonstrated the meaning of "service above self" in their careers and volunteer activities.  We are very fortunate to have Diane, Gail  and Peg join our club.

Learn more about Rotary and what we do in the community by attending our membership event on March 15 starting in the community room of the AG Library.  After a brief introduction, we will walk to the Family Promise Day home (at the previous ABVM convent), meet the director, Sue Minarchi, and tour the home.  The van that we helped to purchase for Family Promise will transport us to The Bridge, a family needs distribution center located at the Church of the Nazarene.  We will return to The GARAGE for refreshments and fellowship.  This event is free and open to anyone who would like to learn more about our club.
We honor our students of the month, Jennifer Cano from the AGHS, and Kaitlyn Grzenda from the AG Charter School.  Jen loves math, is a dancer and aspires to be a lawyer some day.  Kaitlyn is a gymnast and dancer who enjoys crafting and hopes to fulfill her dream to be a second grade teacher.

So proud of our students of the month for January, Jake Zebley from the AGHS and Sammie Seitz from The AG Charter School.  In addition to their very impressive academic credentials, both students have discovered unique ways to express their creativity.  Jake has been instrumental from the start in AG TV and is interested in a career in sports broadcasting while Sammie is merging her artistic skills with robotics and engineering.

This morning Kathy Hrenko told our club about the many volunteer opportunities at Project C.U.R.E's Mid-Atlantic distribution center at the Dansko warehouse.  Before we can volunteer, you will need to make a profile. We will schedule a group volunteering event when the center is ready in January 2016.  Click on the link to get started:https://projectcure.org/volunteer
Our Students of the Month for December are Hannah Kirk from the Avon Grove Charter School and Caroline McCulley from the Avon Grove High School.  Both of these amazingly talented young women are student-athletes with an impressive array of accomplishments within and outside of school.  We are so proud to honor these wonderful students!

Congratulations to Victoria "Madi" Wyatt, our AG Charter School Student of the Month and CJ Berger, our AGHS student of the Month.  Both students have impressive academic credentials, service activities and future career aspirations.  We are so proud of our Avon Grove students!
Past President Kory accepted the challenge to rappel 418 feet down the Brandywine Realty Trust’s One Logan Square Building in Center City Philadelphia on October 23rd.  He did this as a fundraiser for Philadelphia Outward Bound and more specifically for their Veterans Program. He raised $5250 and was the NUMBER ONE FUNDRAISER FOR OUTWARD BOUND!!! Watch Kory's rappel here:  https://youtu.be/9ryCBonMO6c

On October 20 our club sponsored Family Literacy Night at Avon Grove Intermediate School.  The program began with an overview of the importance of regular reading at home. Literacy specialists reviewed topics such as how to select "just right" books for children to read independently. Parents were invited to attend two workshops of their choice while their children were entertained by a local storyteller. He kept students actively engaged in a series of enchanted tales as their parents were busy learning about literacy.

During the workshops, parents learned specific tips and techniques to use with children at home. After participating in the two workshops of their choice, parents joined their children in the cafeteria for some final storytelling.  The children were then invited to choose a book to take home.  These books were provided by the WGA Rotary.

Congratulations to Kristen Riess from AGCS and Lindsay Traino from AGHS who were selected as our Students of the Month for October.
A promotional video featuring Annette Miller (the one with the stylish coat!) is available for viewing.  Click the link to view the video: https://youtu.be/n1Bj9Bi4mxw
