Rotary International 2009-2010 Theme
|
Founded in 1928, the West Grove-Avondale Rotary Club has remained faithful to Rotary’s official mottoes, Service Above Self and They Profit Most Who Serve Best. Each member affirms their belief in these mottoes each week at our meeting and through their individual activities at work, at home and in our community.
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
The development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service;
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society
The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his personal, business and community life;
The advancement of international understanding, good will and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional men and women united in the idea of service.
Eighty-one years of service to our community...all honor and praise to our Founding Fathers and to those who have been a part of this Club since our Charter was granted on October, 30, 1928. Throughout the years our Club has sponsored many activities. Among them are: contributions to the West Grove and Avondale Fire Companies, reconstructing a home when it was seriously damaged by flood, contributing to the worldwide effort to eradicate polio, recognizing outstanding juniors in high school and providing dictionaries to third grade students. We support our troops abroad and our library at home.
Eight-one years...Eighty-one presidents. We can be proud of their contributions to the community, the nation and to international relations as we strive to maintain their heritage, principles and tradition . The world is a little better off because of their efforts, the efforts of our Club officers and most importantly the ongoing efforts of our Club members who are proud of one other and cherish the fellowship that is born from meeting, working and celebrating together.
We invite other professionals and leaders in our community to explore the possibilities and opportunities that are Rotary.
Please be our guest for breakfast any Thursday at 6:50 a.m. at Jenner’s Pond in the Allison Community Center.
Yours in Rotary,
Annette Miller
